The aircraft carrier Akagi was one of the Imperial Japanese Navy's most famous aircraft carriers.
It was originally built as the second ship of the Amagi-class battlecruiser, but construction was suspended due to the Washington Naval Treaty, so it was converted into an aircraft carrier and completed in 1927.

Originally, the ship had a multi-deck exterior, but was remodeled at the Sasebo Naval Arsenal to have a full-length deck.

During the Pacific War, she served as a main aircraft carrier in the Nagumo Task Force and participated in the attack on Pearl Harbor and the Indian Ocean Campaign.

During the Midway Island invasion in June 1942, the ship was hit by an attack from the US forces, caught fire, and was destroyed by a torpedo from an allied destroyer.

- Snap-fit assembly means no adhesive is required for assembly.

- Products with mold designs and commercialization later than the same scale/other series (special series).

- Parts are molded in a gray color that mimics the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal color in accordance with historical facts (registered to Yokosuka Naval District, entered Yokosuka Arsenal in 1942) - The display sea surface base three-dimensionally depicts the wake waves generated by the bow, sides, and propellers.
Hull - The hull is divided into left and right sections, separated at the waterline.

The sides are divided into left and right halves, and the portholes and external electrical wiring are depicted with vivid, three-dimensional sculptures.
- Fairleads and other fittings and sculptures are realistically reproduced with sharp carvings.

The crane rail under the stern flight deck is a separate part, with attention paid to detail even in areas that are hard to see.

- The bridge is molded all around using a slide mold for a realistic look.
- The 20cm cannons mounted on both sides of the stern are beautifully sculpted, even depicting the wrinkles in the canvas.
