TAMIYA 1/48 Chance Vought F4U-1/2 Birdcage Corsair.
[Unique Reverse Gull Wing Masterpiece Fighter]
One of the U.S. Navy's masterpiece carrier-based fighters that appeared in World War II, the F4U Corsair is characterized by its unique main wing shape called the reverse gull wing. This main wing was created for the purpose of shortening the length of the main landing gear while being equipped with a large diameter propeller. In fact, the Corsair is equipped with a large propeller that reaches approximately 4 meters in diameter. Taking full advantage of the 2000 horsepower generated by the Pratt & Whitney Double Wasp engine, it achieved a top speed of 636 km/h. Among them, the F4U-1 was the first mass-produced model of the Corsair, which was active until after World War II, and was nicknamed the "Birdcage" because it was equipped with a canopy with many frames reminiscent of a birdcage. In February 1943, it was introduced into the Pacific War and participated in actual combat, demonstrating its powerful power and attack power equipped with six 12.7mm machine guns.
