Product introduction Planning for the new Ju87 D series began in the early 1940s.
The oil cooler is attached to the underside of the nose, and the radiators are installed on both sides of the underside of the main wing, resulting in a cleaner nose cowling shape compared to the B series, and the streamlined windshield and main landing gear covers are also more sophisticated. The shape has been changed, resulting in an aircraft with excellent aerodynamics.
We also increased the onboard fuel capacity and added bulletproof steel plates around the crew.
Although the D type was deployed on various fronts, it was clearly inferior to Allied fighters at a maximum speed of 400 km/h.
However, there was still room for action on the Eastern Front and other areas where the Allied Forces had few high-performance fighters.
As a measure against the wing load, which had increased to near the limit due to repeated modifications, the D-5 had its main wing tips extended and was equipped with detachable main landing gear, and later versions had dive brakes removed.
The G-1 was an anti-tank attack aircraft developed for attacking Soviet tanks and was equipped with two Flak 18 37mm machine guns for anti-tank attacks under the main wings.
In 1942, a plan to use the Stuka to attack Soviet tanks took shape, and in December a prototype machine based on the Ju87D-1 with a machine gun mounted under the wings was manufactured and tested.
The results of this test were very satisfactory, confirming that a single shot from a 37mm gun can be used to disable a tank by firing it into the rear engine area.
Immediately, the G-1 type was mass-produced based on the Ju87D-3.
The G-2 was based on the D-5, with 37mm cannons mounted on the underside of both wings like the G-1, and the 20mm cannons on the wings were removed.
The G-1 and G-2 operated mainly on the Eastern Front, where they demonstrated their effectiveness against Soviet anti-tank attacks.
