Once you download Casio's OPERATION GUIDE 5161, in English, then keep it handy! You will need it if you want the watch to do everything it CAN! I just wanted to make sure that I got rid of the little symbol in front of the date, and could put in the DAY in English...which I did! It does update at night, and they say to put it in a window, with the 12 facing the window, to make sure it will update. That is rather a pain to remember to do that. I kept it on one night, and found it updated anyway....but tried again last night, and it does not show the (almost imperceptible) bar showing that it had updated.I also like the fact that it DOES have a light-up dial that, when the button is pressed, shows the watch face...in an old-fashioned yellow light. It rather casts a shadow off the 6, so you will tend to think it's always 30 minutes into the hour...but once you know to look for the REAL hands, it's not a big deal. Not as bright or clear as the Timex Indiglo backlighting, but better than nothing.This is a replacement for an Oceanus Watch, made by Casio, that I've had and loved for the last 6 or 7 years. Not quite as fancy, but I'm so OCD, I want to know the EXACT time. If it lasts as long, keeping perfect time, at half the price, I will be ecstatic!

I am cautiously optimistic about this wristwatch. After some difficulties setting it up, it works fine now. It is 100% accurate as it adjusts itself to the NIST time. The watch arrived with Japanese instructions, but after some research I was able to download an English translation, which was still difficult to follow...I set it to show time and date for our time zone. It would automatically adjust the date and time for daylight saving mode. Occasionall I would place it to the window to get full sun exposure, but it seems, it gets sufficient solar energy just from wearing it outside during yard work or hiking. Whenever I check the battery, it shows full charge. So far the crystal show no scratches. The SS band is comfortable but the clasp is a little clumsy, not as flat as on my SA watch.I always wanted a precision wrist watch with perpetual calendar and no batteries to change. For the money I paid, this seems to be a great value.
