The EF81 300 series, developed for the Kanmon Tunnel connecting Honshu and Kyushu, features a stainless steel body with a unique corrugated exterior.
Of these, No. 301 and No. 302 were painted rose pink (red No. 13), the same color as other general cars, when they were transferred from the Moji locomotive depot to the Uchigo locomotive depot due to the timetable revision in October 1978.
It moved its running line to the Joban Line and saw a wide range of activity, including towing the sleeper express train ``Yuzuru,'' general passenger trains, and freight trains.
After that, it returned to the Moji engine depot and remained active in the rose pink (red No. 13) paint until 2014.
The model is commercialized after 2010 with an inspection window on the side of the driver's cab.
