After the transition to JR, the JR mark was added to the body of the locomotive, and there were differences in appearance from the JNR era, such as a change in roof color and the addition of radio antennas. EF65 1118 appeared in 1997, replacing EF65 1019, the first locomotive with the Rainbow livery, which was aging. A distinctive feature is the large "EF65" logo painted on the side of the body, which is also applied to the side windows. Initially, the H-rubber seals on various parts were gray, but they were changed to black during an inspection in March 2000. In addition, air conditioning was installed in 2006, and during an inspection in 2009, the part of the "EF65" logo that overlapped the side windows was omitted.
