[For those purchasing pre-order items]
We order products from manufacturers well in advance, but due to manufacturer circumstances, the number of items in stock may be significantly reduced. In such cases, we will sell products in order of the earliest orders placed, and may be forced to cancel orders once they are sold out. Thank you for your understanding.
Release dates for models and toys are estimates announced by the manufacturer. Releases may be delayed or significantly postponed. Release may also be canceled. Please be aware that orders may be canceled for the above reasons.
Items ordered at the same time will be delivered once all items are received, so individual shipping is not possible. This is a Tomix completed HO gauge vehicle, the JNR Diesel Car Kiha 40 Series 500 (Late Model) (M). Tomix HO-436 Kiha 40-500 Kouki M. Scheduled for release between March 2026 and April 2026.
[Product Introduction] This is a Tomix HO gauge completed vehicle, the JNR Diesel Car Kiha 40 Series 500 (Late Model) (M). The car body is slightly larger vertically than the 2000 series, and features newly reproduced unit sash windows with rounded corners on the inside of the frame. This model is based on the later model (554 and later) with vertical rain gutters housed inside the car body. The bogies are DT44A and TR227A. The underfloor recreates the complex structure unique to diesel cars, including the DMF15 engine and various other equipment. The front jumper plug can be installed with either a hose or a plug cap. The front display includes interchangeable printed parts for "Local (Navy Blue)" and "Rapid" services. Clear side indicator lights are included. Some markings are printed. The car number is selectable and includes a transfer sheet. The head and tail lights and front display are ON/OFF. Headlights with F switch are incandescent LEDs, taillights are red LEDs, and the front display lights up with a white LED. Equipped with a cab interior light that lights up the cab when rearward or between coupling surfaces. The cab interior light can be turned on by flipping a switch, even when the head and taillights and front display are off when the cab is in the middle. Closely coupled TN coupler is standard. Can pass through a minimum radius of R490 (excluding S-shaped linear trains). Reproduced in the metropolitan area color of vermilion No. 5, the color used when it was first introduced. Each H-rubber on the windows is reproduced in gray, and the JR mark is selectable and a transfer sheet is included. Powered car equipped with a motor with a flywheel.
[Set contents/example of formation] [Kiha 40 (M) (late model)] (HO-436) + [Kiha 40 (T) (late model)] (HO-437) *HO-437 is sold separately.
【Actual Vehicle Introduction】The Kiha 40 series is a general-purpose diesel car developed by the Japanese National Railways (JNR) and introduced in 1977 as a successor to the Kiha 10 series, which was becoming increasingly outdated at the time. A variety of series were created, including cars with both driver's cabs and cars with only one driver's cab, each with specifications tailored to the climate of each region and with or without toilets. The Kiha 40 series 500s were primarily deployed in Tohoku, with dual driver's cabs for cold climates. At first glance, they appear similar to the Kiha 40 series 2000s for warmer climates, but the side unit sash windows are upper drop/lower rise type, and are slightly larger vertically than the 2000s, and the inner corners of the sash frame are rounded (R) whereas the 2000s are nearly right-angled. When first introduced, the exterior was a single vermilion No. 5 color known as the "capital region color," but from the later period of JNR and after the transition to JR, painted cars known as regional colors appeared in various places. In the northern Tohoku region, centered around Morioka, the Morioka color with a white background and red stripes was used, and for the Iiyama Line in the Shinetsu region, cars with a white and blue background with orange diagonal stripes and a logo with the French words "VOITURE AMITIE" (Train of Friendship) appeared, and the color variations of the Kiha 40 series expanded.
