To achieve beautiful, fading bokeh, we used an ultra-precise aberration measuring instrument, created using high-precision measurement technology cultivated through the development of cutting-edge microscopes. During the basic research phase, this measuring instrument was used to quantitatively verify the "lens characteristics" of historic masterpieces. During the development phase, based on the verification from the basic research phase, this measuring instrument was used to measure bokeh at the aberration level and optimally control the spherical aberration curve, achieving a high level of both beautiful, fading bokeh at an open F1.2 aperture and high-level resolution. The M.ZUIKO DIGITAL ED 45mm F1.2 PRO is designed to intentionally focus light rays passing through the outside of the lens in front of the lens, with the spherical aberration curve gradually tilting toward the lens as it moves toward the outside of the lens. By intentionally leaving spherical aberration at an optimal level, we achieve beautiful, fading bokeh. High resolution thanks to the generous use of specialized lens elements. This lens features six ED lens elements, the most of any ZUIKO lens, including a newly developed "ED-DSA lens" that combines the properties of both ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) and DSA (Dual Super Aspherical) lenses. It effectively corrects out-of-focus color fringing (axial chromatic aberration) and color fringing at the periphery (lateral chromatic aberration), both of which are issues with large-aperture lenses, achieving beautifully blurred bokeh and high optical performance that captures points clearly even at maximum aperture. Superior close-up shooting capabilities: With a minimum focusing distance of 50cm and a magnification of 0.1x (0.2x in 35mm format), this lens offers exceptional close-up shooting capabilities. This allows you to get closer to your subject, resulting in significantly blurred backgrounds. Clear image quality is achieved with "Z Coating Nano," a coating technology that creates a coating layer with a refractive index close to that of air by coating the lens surface with nano-sized particles that contain a layer of air at their center, reducing surface reflections. MSC mechanism for fast, quiet AF: Despite its large aperture of f/1.2, the MSC (Movie & Still Compatible) mechanism features a lightweight focusing unit. The MSC mechanism's core drive system uses a screw drive mechanism, while the drive motor is a stepping motor.
High AF accuracy across the entire focusing area: The on-chip phase-detection AF used by the OM-D E-M1 Mark II is not limited by light flux, allowing for all-cross focusing even with a large aperture f/1.2 lens. This allows for highly accurate focusing across the entire focusing area, even at the periphery. SLR (phase-detection AF): Current SLR cameras are limited to a f/2.8 light flux. Since there is no sensor capable of measuring with a f/1.2 light flux, AF accuracy cannot be guaranteed even with lenses faster than f/2.8. E-M1 Mark II (On-chip Phase-Detection AF) On-chip phase-detection AF has no light flux limitations, enabling highly accurate distance measurement with all-cross lenses even when a large-aperture f/1.2 lens is attached.
