A mid-telephoto prime STF lens designed to deliver sharp images and breathtakingly soft bokeh. Mount: E-mount lens (compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras). Focal length: 100mm. Maximum aperture: f/2.8. Filter diameter: 72mm / [SEL100F28GM]SEL100F28GMReleased in March 2017
A mid-telephoto prime STF lens designed to deliver sharp images and breathtakingly soft bokeh. Even among Sony's G Master lenses, boasting excellent resolution and beautiful bokeh, this 100mm mid-telephoto prime STF (Smooth Trans Focus) lens delivers a level of beautiful bokeh that's a cut above the rest. In addition to the apodization (APD) optical element developed for the SEL100F28GM, it also features a newly designed 11-blade circular diaphragm and a design to minimize vignetting. Breathtakingly soft and unique bokeh effects clearly highlight in-focus subjects, bringing natural depth to images. Furthermore, the high-standard optical design delivers exceptionally high resolution even at the edges of the frame. It supports both contrast-detection and on-chip phase-detection AF, and its Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM) technology delivers fast, precise, and quiet AF performance, allowing photographers to focus on their creative work, whether capturing stills or video. The Macro Range Switching function, which allows users to switch to macro range using the ring on the lens body, enables close-up shooting with a minimum focusing distance of 0.57m and a maximum magnification of 0.25x, while still taking advantage of the high-quality bokeh. The built-in optical image stabilization effectively compensates for camera shake during close-up shots or in low-light conditions. The lens features easy operability, including a focus mode switch, focus hold button, and aperture ring, and is dust- and weather-resistant for worry-free outdoor shooting. The SEL100F28GM boasts the exceptional resolution you expect from G Master. Nano AR coating, ED (Extra-Low Dispersion) glass, and aspherical lens elements ensure sharp, crisp images across the entire frame. The SEL100F28GM meets the high design standards of G Master, delivering exceptional sharpness right to the edges of the frame. Enhanced by an apodized optical element: The apodized (APD) optical element built into the A-mount STF lens SAL135F28 has been redesigned and developed specifically for the SEL100F28GM. The optical element delivers smooth, rounded edges, creating ideal bokeh, resulting in uniquely soft bokeh in both the foreground and background. The 11-blade circular aperture design minimizes vignetting, ensuring the most beautiful bokeh possible. Not only does it beautifully reproduce point light sources from the center to the periphery of the frame, it also pursues soft, minimal noise even in backgrounds with many small point light sources, such as sunlight filtering through trees or reflected light from leaves. It also features a newly designed 11-blade aperture unit, achieving circular bokeh befitting a G Master STF lens, which is known for its meticulous focus on bokeh. The SEL100F28GM supports both contrast AF and on-chip phase detection AF, allowing you to concentrate on your creative work. The focus drive is equipped with Direct Drive SSM (DDSSM), which uses the ultrasonic expansion and contraction motion of a piezoelectric element to drive the focus lens. High-precision focusing is possible in both normal and close-up photography. Furthermore, the lens operates quietly, making it ideal for wildlife photography and shooting in quiet locations. Even during video recording, the micro-wobbling motion during focusing ensures fast, quiet AF. Its fast, precise, and quiet AF performance allows photographers to focus on their creative work, whether shooting still images or video. Equipped with a macro range switching function for close-up photography that takes advantage of bokeh. The macro range switching function allows you to switch to the macro range using the ring on the lens body. This allows for close-up photography with a minimum focusing distance of 0.57m and a maximum magnification of 0.25x while maintaining high resolution. Equipped with optical image stabilization that is effective at slow shutter speeds. The optical image stabilization mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake, even when shooting in dimly lit locations. A highly responsive linear motor drives the heavy vibration-resistant lens, providing fast and precise compensation. When attached to an α body equipped with 5-axis in-body image stabilization, the built-in image stabilization also works, further expanding the shooting range. Equipped with a focus mode switch, focus hold button, aperture ring, and aperture ring click selector switch, the lens provides high operability. Furthermore, the lens is designed to be dust- and water-resistant for use in harsh outdoor environments.
STF Lens T-Number Because STF lenses reduce the amount of light transmitted due to the apodization effect, the aperture ring displays the T-number instead of the F-number, which is determined by the lens diameter and focal length. The F-number displayed and recorded on the camera is also the T-number.
