Compatible with the highly portable Dual I.S.2 image stabilization function, which enables handheld telephoto shooting, and delivers high image stabilization effectiveness of 7 stops*1 by linking and controlling the camera's in-body image stabilization (B.I.S.) and in-lens image stabilization (O.I.S.) in real time. This camera combines 5-axis in-body image stabilization (B.I.S.) that compensates for vertical/horizontal angular shake (Pitch/Yaw), rotational shake (Roll), and vertical/horizontal translational shake (X/Yaw) with 2-axis in-lens image stabilization (O.I.S.) that compensates for vertical/horizontal angular shake (Pitch/Yaw) to powerfully correct and eliminate camera shake that occurs in any shooting scene. Equipped with optical image stabilization (O.I.S.), the O.I.S. system uses a gyro sensor inside the lens barrel to detect and correct shake. By detecting shake 4,000 times per second, it detects and corrects not only high-frequency (fast, small, rapid shake) but also low-frequency (large, slow, slow shake). This allows you to capture beautiful, clear images with minimal camera shake, even when using a camera without Dual I.S. or a camera from another manufacturer, even in situations prone to camera shake, such as zooming or handheld night shots.
High-Speed, High-Precision Focusing: While enhancing the benefits of 480 AF operations per second and the high-precision focusing provided by the contrast detection method, it also achieves faster speeds. The contrast peak is instantly detected, and the direction of movement and focus position are calculated. Furthermore, faster communication control between the body and lens achieves both precision and speed.
Double Focusing: By splitting the focus group, which is typically composed of a single group, into two groups and operating them independently, high-quality imaging performance is achieved regardless of subject distance. Furthermore, by splitting the focus group into two, each group can be made lighter, resulting in faster and more accurate AF. Attaching the optional 1.4x Teleconverter (DMW-STC14) extends the focal length to 280mm*, 1.4 times the standard focal length of 200mm, allowing you to get closer to subjects in sports scenes and other situations. Additionally, using the optional 2x Teleconverter (DMW-STC20) doubles the telephoto end focal length from the lens's standard 200mm to 400mm*. This allows for easy handheld shooting at the 400mm focal length, which requires a tripod, and maximizes mobility for even greater telephoto potential. *Note: The 1.4x Teleconverter (DMW-STC14) reduces the f-stop by one stop, while the 2x Teleconverter (DMW-STC20) reduces the f-stop by two stops. Fast AF/MF Switching and Precise Focusing: The Focus Clutch mechanism allows for quick AF/MF switching by simply sliding the focus ring. In addition, a distance indicator appears on the lens barrel, allowing for precise focusing.
High operability meets professional demands. Three focus buttons are located on the side of the lens, making them easy to press in both portrait and landscape orientations.
S Series lenses enable high-definition 4K video production. The optical design supports high-definition video recording and the optimized internal structure of the lens barrel suppresses breathing, which changes the angle of view as the focus position shifts during focusing during video recording. Furthermore, aperture micro-step control smoothly controls F-stop changes, even in scenes with large changes in brightness, reducing exposure changes. It also supports stable exposure control when panning during video recording.
