The H5 series is a shinkansen train owned by JR Hokkaido that was introduced in 2014 and began operation in 2016 when the Hokkaido Shinkansen opened between Shin-Aomori and Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto. Based on the E5 series shinkansen owned by JR East, some of the interior and exterior have been modified, and the exterior features a symbol mark with a Hokkaido motif and a Saika Purple side stripe. In recent years, baggage storage has been added inside the car to accommodate the increasing size of baggage, so some of the windows are blocked off. It is mainly used for the "Hayabusa" service, and between Tokyo and Morioka, it is coupled with the E6 series Komachi, just like the E5 series.
