Product introduction: This is a model of the final battle of the Battle of Leyte Gulf, with new parts added, including a 25mm machine gun and radar! This product is an unpainted kit that requires assembly and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and the model does not include the bottom of the ship.
This product is made up of conventional (special series) molds and newly added mold parts.
The heavy cruiser "Atago" was a modified and improved version of the previous Myoko-class cruiser, and was built as a treaty cruiser.
The second ship, Atago, was completed in 1932 at the Kure Naval Arsenal and was incorporated into the Yokosuka Naval District.
There are three ships of the same type: Takao, Chokai, and Maya. They are equipped with five 20.3 cm twin gun turrets with an elevation angle of 70 degrees, allowing for anti-aircraft firing.
In 1939, the ship was remodeled, and like the Takao, the bridge was reduced in size, a bulge was installed, and the rear mast was moved to improve communication.
At the start of the war, the ship was involved in the Southwestern Front Operation, and then advanced to Guadalcanal, taking part in the Second Battle of the Solomon Islands, the Battle of the South Pacific, and the Third Battle of the Solomon Islands.
During the Battle of Leyte Gulf in October 1944, the ship was hit by four torpedoes by a US submarine in the Palawan Strait and sank.
The product specifications are based on those from the Battle of Leyte Gulf (October 1944).
-Reproduces the appearance of the No. 21 and No. 22 radar on the front mast, the No. 13 radar on the rear mast, and multiple 25mm single machine guns.
New molds have been used to standardize the differences in the reproduction of equipment depending on the product release date, and some parts have been divided to take painting into consideration. The No. 13 radar is a new part with a truss structure and a shaped antenna.
The No. 21 radar is depicted with more delicate engravings than previous accessory parts, such as the insulator base for fixing the element on the front side.
・The No. 22 radar is made into a part in an open state by using a slide mold.
・The 12.7cm twin anti-aircraft gun A1 Kai 1 is divided into 6 parts, with improved modeling resolution compared to the existing 2 parts.
The 9m cutter is made into two parts for painting, and the stand is available as a separate part, or you can choose to use the deck as a one-piece mold.
・The canvas, wheelhouse and engine room canopy of the 11m motorboat are separate parts to allow for painting.
Each painting is done and assembly and bonding are done later.
- The shipboard stand has a molded uneven shape and light holes, giving it a more precise appearance.
- New parts are used for the chrysanthemum crest on the bow, and the side lights and lifebuoys on the sides of the bridge.
- Binocular telescope parts have been added to the air defense command post and compass bridge.
- Added decals for the ship name on the stern (painted in battleship colors) and the white lines on the mast
- The Type 96 25mm machine gun is now standardly constructed in two parts, reducing the amount of painting required.
Hull: The hull is a one-piece structure with the left and right sides molded as a single unit, allowing for a more stable shape when assembled compared to a left and right joint assembly.
- The numerous blocked and unblocked portholes lined up on the sides of the ship, as well as the surrounding external electrical wiring, are reproduced using three-dimensional sculptures.
Upper Deck - The upper deck is a single piece, with detailed engravings on the linoleum deck and the anti-slip steel deck.
The ammunition box is molded into the deck as a single piece.
Each deck - The shelter deck is made into a separate part, and the torpedo equipment area on the lower level is also accurately reproduced.
・The rails connecting to the aircraft work deck are made into one piece using a slide mold.
Bridge - The distinctive small bridge structure is reproduced by stacking and assembling, and the shape is precisely reproduced.
- Separate parts such as ladders and truss-shaped supports are used to enhance the sense of precision.
Main gun turret - The main gun barrel can be attached to the turret at any angle to recreate any elevation or depression.
-Expressed with tiny carvings such as openings on the sides made of heat-resistant boards
Chimneys - Both the front and rear chimneys are split into left and right halves, and the handrails and double scaffolding are expressed with delicate carvings.
・The chimney's rainproof grille is designed so that the inner cylinder side can be seen through when it is removed.
- The steam exhaust pipe is a separate part from the chimney, allowing for greater detail.
Mast and aircraft equipment: The rear mast is divided into a minimum number of parts, such as the support columns and radar room, but is finished with a sense of precision.
- The catapult (Kure Type 2 Model 5) uses a slide mold to realistically reproduce the side and top shapes.
-The molding color is gray to improve workability (to prevent damage when cutting the gate).
- Four Zero-type (three-seat) floatplanes are included
Included decals: Includes markings such as naval ensigns, national flags, and the Japanese flag for aircraft carriers.
・Military flags are available in three sizes
The contents are 1/700 scale versions of the actual 10, 6, and 3 widths.
- Includes the Hinomaru flag of carrier-based aircraft, friendly identification belt (yellow belt), etc., and the Hinomaru flag also includes the one without the white border from the later period of the war.
- Decals featuring the white lines on the mast and the ship's name on the stern (in two colors: gold and solid in naval colors)
