Plastic Models
[Scale] 1/700
Product Introduction The second Kongo-class battleship, the Hiei, which features a smart bridge, is now available with new parts! This product is an unpainted kit that requires assembly and painting.
The scale is 1/700, and the offshore model does not include the bottom of the ship.
This product is made up of a conventional (special series) mold and newly designed additional parts.
The battleship Hiei was the oldest of the five Kongo-class battleships that participated in the Pacific War, and was completed as the second ship of the Kongo-class in 1914 at the Yokosuka Naval Arsenal.
With a total length of 222m and a total width of 29.8m, it was equipped with eight 45-caliber 35.6cm main guns. Due to restrictions imposed by the Naval Treaty, it was used as a training battleship, but was extensively remodeled from 1937 to 1940, the latest for a Kongo-class ship.
The year after the refit was completed, the Pacific War broke out, and the ship participated in the Indian Ocean campaign, accompanying the Southern Front and the task force. During the Battle of Guadalcanal, the ship bombarded the airfields of the Kongo and Haruna, and then headed to the battlefield together with the Kirishima to bombard the airfields. During this battle, a night-time gun battle broke out between the ship and the American fleet.
The ship became unable to steer due to flooding in the steering room, and was subjected to multiple air raids the following day.
The decision was then made to scuttle the ship, and the Kingston valve was opened and the ship sank north of Guadalcanal.
The product is based on the appearance of the second Kongo-class battleship, the Hiei, in its final form from 1941 to 1942 after it underwent extensive renovations.
- The tower-type bridge, which was remodeled to test the Yamato-class battleship, and its distinctive shape with a 10-meter rangefinder and Type 98 firing compass are reproduced.
Newly designed parts are available to standardize the differences in the reproduction of equipment, etc. depending on the product release date, and some parts are divided to take painting into consideration. The 12.7 cm twin anti-aircraft gun A-type is divided into 4 parts, and the modeling resolution is improved from the existing 2 parts.
- The 9-meter cutter is made into two parts for painting, and the deck stand is available as a separate part, or as a one-piece molded deck.
- The 12m internal combustion engine boat has separate parts for the canvas, wheelhouse and engine room canopy, taking painting into consideration.
Each painting is done and assembly and bonding are done later.
- The shipboard stand has a molded uneven shape and light holes, giving it a more precise appearance.
-New chrysanthemum crest on the bow
- Newly equipped port lights and lifebuoys
The former is to unify the size of each ship, and the latter is to add additional details to the parts that were omitted.
- Added decals for the ship name on the stern (painted in battleship colors) and the white lines on the mast
- The Type 96 25mm twin machine gun is now standardly made of two parts, reducing the amount of painting required.
- The previously included Type 95 seaplane has been changed to a precision-engineered part, and a Type 0 observation seaplane has been added.
- Binocular telescope parts are included to enhance the sense of precision of the air defense command post on the top of the bridge.
・The hull has a structure in which the left and right sides are integrated. ・Special parts reproduce the characteristics of the Hiei, such as the bulge shape of the side.
- Portholes and external electrical wiring installed in preparation for the naval drilling are depicted with detailed carvings.
・The upper deck is a single piece of wood with delicate carvings
・The bridge deck (the shelter connected to the second main gun turret) is a separate part, and the shape of the portholes and other parts on the side walls are carved to reproduce their shape.
- The aircraft work deck is made into a separate part, and the linoleum support and aircraft transport rails are expressed with delicate carvings.
- The chimney is a two-part structure with left and right parts glued together
- The steam exhaust pipes around the chimney are made into separate parts to give them a three-dimensional appearance.
- The funnel cap is removed for a precise look.
The truss structure under the searchlight tower is carved in a recess to match the wall in the background.
・The front side of the main turret is a Hiei-exclusive part with a distinctive shape composed of flat surfaces.
- The main gun barrel has a muzzle that is recreated using a slide mold (opening).
- The main gun barrel and canvas are integrated, and the elevation angle is fixed.
- The heat shield of the turret rangefinder, a feature of the Hiei, is divided into left and right parts and shaped with special parts.
- The strip patterns on the floor of the anti-aircraft gun emplacements are precisely carved.
- The catapult is non-adhesive, so you can rotate/change direction after assembly.
・Mast is designed with integrally molded tilt support for easy alignment/assembly
