Kasuga Maru, Nitta Maru and Hachiman Maru, were both completed as one of Japan's finest luxury passenger ships at the time, and were scheduled to sail to the west coast of South America, and were launched at Mitsubishi Nagasaki Shipbuilding in September 1945.
