"The OCW-S5000ME is the thinnest OCEANUS men's model (as of January 2021). The OCW-S5000ME is based on the OCW-S5000, the thinnest OCEANUS men's model (as of January 2021), and incorporates maki-e, a traditional Japanese craft, into its design. Maki-e is a technique in which pictures and letters are drawn on the surface of lacquer ware using lacquer, and then gold or silver metal powder is sprinkled on the surface of the ware before it dries to fix it in place. This model was developed and manufactured by Mr. Yutaro Shimode, a traditional craftsman in Kyoto. The motif is based on Mr. Shimode's masterpiece "Whisper of Eternity," which expresses the sparkle of water using platinum. The design concept is "Maki Bokashi Nukibuki Namon," a combination of "Maki Bokashi," a technique in which platinum powder is sprinkled from the bottom to the top to create a beautiful gradation, and "Nukibuki," a technique in which platinum is deliberately left unadhered to express the sparkle of water. The platinum powder used in this work is the size of No. 2 platinum powder, called hirame, after considering various sizes in pursuit of the sparkling effect when it is made into a product. Since all the work is done by hand by Mr. Shimode, no two pieces are alike. The bezel is also DLC treated to tighten the face design. In terms of functions, in addition to time correction by the watch itself using the standard radio wave receiving function, the watch is equipped with a time correction function using a smartphone link function via Bluetooth®. The smartphone link function allows the user to easily and intuitively set the world time from approximately 300 cities and automatically change the time zone and daylight saving time.
