Macro function works perfectly. Image quality is superb. Image stabilization is a hair noisy, but acceptable. Does not have the robust weatherproof build of the high end lenses, but the value for this lens is much better.

The autofocus is terrible and noisy (that's what MF is for though) but the image quality is great. I am just finding this out (like an easy 3 months in) but the lens I was sent was defective as the aperture blades were stuck wide open so I couldn't control the depth of field AT All (still got a mfing 4star tho bc i can work around it) and this being a macro lens with an already extremely shallow focus depth makes it that much harder to get perfectly sharp photos. shooting wide open isn't always great as you will quickly figure out especially with this type of lens

Great lens! I like the feel of the focus ring action. It doesn't slip so much when pointed downward as other brands will. the lens in general has a nice quality feel to it. Images always come out clear.

I was so excited to receive this lens, especially because it was on sale. I put the lens on my Canon 7D and I couldn't believe how loud the image stabilization was. It sounded like something was really wrong with the lens. I put another Sigma lens on my camera, to make sure I wasn't having camera problems, and it was very quiet. I repackaged the lens and sent it back. Ordered a Canon lens instead. I have several Sigma lenses and am very happy with them, but this one was too noisy.

Magnificent lens, Way better than Canon's macro, and if you have the adapter, form, Sigma 1.4mm to Canon Camera's it's like having an extra micro Lens ,,,,,cropped Canon lens have a 1.6 crop unless you have a FULL FRAME and that still increases your Macro setting for 105mm-to 168mm,,,,,,,and for Cropped lens its the 'Sigma 1.4mm to Canon' with this you can get your Marco's to147mm- to with the 1.4 extended a = 210mm

I got this for an amazing price and it gets the job done in terms of macro photography. The design and look of the lens itself looks kind of dated, but the images come out pretty good. The color rendition IMO isn't as good as the Canon 100 2.8L IS USM, but for way less money those things can be fixed in Lightroom or Photoshop.

This is by far the best lens I have in my bag. I have been using extension tubes to capture my macro pictures and while they have done a good job the quality and sharpness of my photos were just ok. This 105 mm lens has made me realize how mediocre my previous photos were. I had read reviews saying that this lens also takes great portrait pics and as they say, seeing is believing. The pictures are so sharp and vibrant it's unbelievable. I am very happy with my purchase.
