Custom transformers and discrete circuitry from a recording industry legend - the RNR1 is a unique, top-of-the-line ribbon microphone. Ribbon microphones have long been prized for their "natural" sound. Neither forward nor flashy, they capture every ounce of midrange richness and often sit well in a mix. While their commonly cited weaknesses are often associated with physical sensitivity, this has been overcome through trial and error with more robust and reliable materials. However, their primary drawback is the roll-off of high frequencies due to their unique design. That's where Rupert Neve, the father of the recording console, stepped in.
