- Overwhelming DSP Power: The original Axe-Fx made a big impact as the industry's first commercially available product to incorporate a military-grade DSP. This DSP power enabled a level of detail and realism unmatched by other products. The Axe-Fx II expanded on this concept by incorporating two DSPs. The Axe-Fx III continues this philosophy while evolving further. The main audio engine uses the Texas Instruments KeyStone DSP. This processor is the most powerful DSP available, with more than double the performance of the processor used in the Axe-Fx II.
■Color Display: The large 800x480 IPS color display offers 30 times the resolution of the previous model. Improved brightness and contrast over commercially available displays ensure visibility in a variety of situations. Five push encoders and the main encoder allow for quick data entry and parameter control. Editing is quick and easy with minimal effort required to access and edit parameters. Direct access to five on-screen parameters and five "push" functions is also available.
■Input & Output Blocks: The number of input and output sources has been increased to four each. The Axe-Fx III features one instrument input on the front and one on the back, both of which feature Auto-Z technology to simulate input impedance. Unlimited placement of input and output blocks anywhere within the grid provides even greater routing flexibility. Easily insert different outboard devices at different points in the signal chain, or process acoustic and electric guitar stereo outputs simultaneously. Send a stereo signal to the audience, output wet/dry/wet signals onstage, and record a DI output for re-amping. Each output also has a dedicated LEVEL parameter. ■8-In, 8-Out USB Audio: The 16-core, 500MHz processor enables 8-in, 8-out USB audio, making the Axe-Fx III a central component in your music production environment. Audio-grade parts and converters provide performance superior to most third-party USB audio interfaces. The 8x8 channels allow you to record multiple tracks, including processed audio and DI signals, while listening to backing tracks and stereo amp sounds in real time. USB audio sources can also be placed on the grid using dedicated blocks. ■ Ever-Evolving Features: Fractal Audio has set a new precedent in the industry with its philosophy of free updates. In the past, most companies only released one or two firmware updates over the life of their products, primarily to fix bugs. However, Fractal Audio believes that digital audio processors are platforms that grow as the manufacturer's expertise grows. Just as personal computers receive frequent updates to improve performance and add features, Fractal Audio steadily releases firmware updates to improve product functionality. The Axe-Fx II series has undergone approximately 30 firmware upgrades. The Axe-Fx III is designed with similar upgrades in mind. The user-friendly Fractal-Bot makes firmware updates extremely easy. Built-in backup firmware ensures recovery even if power is lost during an update. Axe-Edit III: Axe-Edit III now features a resizable interface, providing crisp, high-definition display even when enlarged. Axe-Edit III features control over all the latest features of Axe-Fx III and a "Quick Build" mode for easy preset creation using drag-and-drop templates. Axe-Manage controls presets and user cabinets, while the Scene Manager handles scene naming and configuration.
