Today, we pay homage to that legendary studio cornerstone with the Behringer 1273, a two-channel microphone preamp with built-in EQ. The 1273 is more than just a remake. Developed in collaboration with one of the original design engineers, their invaluable knowledge and experience ensures a design that remains faithful to the original while meeting the needs of modern productions. Versatile Operation: The 1273 is based on Class A discrete circuitry, ensuring maximum signal purity and minimal tonal artifacts. Each input and output stage features high-quality, custom-designed Midas transformers to maintain signal clarity and purity. Each channel also features a multi-function gain control for various input types, including microphone, line, and instrument, providing flexibility for a wide range of recording scenarios. When switching from dynamic to ribbon microphones, a simple press of the tone switch adjusts the transformer impedance to match the microphone being used, making it a convenient tool for using vintage microphones. Optimal Input Level Setting: The 1273 features an electronically controlled, resistive-step rotary gain switch, allowing up to 80dB of gain adjustment. This allows you to precisely set the optimum input level while minimizing noise and easily recalling settings for every mix. The precision 3-band EQ section offers low frequencies of 35, 60, 110, and 220 Hz, mid frequencies of 360, 700, 1600, 3200, 4800, and 7200 Hz, and high frequencies of 10, 12, and 16 kHz. The inductor-based rotary switch adds a deep, vintage sound to any mix. Combined with a five-position high-pass filter with settings of 50, 80, 160, and 300 Hz, these settings offer creative control. Vocals are given more intimacy and presence, guitars a warmer, woodier tone, and basses a more defined, funky presence.
