This hanging scroll depicts Rennyo Shonin, a Buddhist deity belonging to the Jodo Shinshu Honganji sect. Rennyo Shonin is the founder of the Jodo Shinshu sect, which spread the Jodo Shinshu sect throughout Japan. He is usually enshrined on the left side of the top shelf of a Buddhist altar.
