This hanging scroll depicts Daikokuten, the side Buddha of the Nichiren sect. Daikokuten is the god of grain and wealth, and is usually enshrined on the right side of the top shelf of the Buddhist altar. (Note: The left and right sides may be reversed.) The subdued, chic image and mounting blend in with any Buddhist altar design. It offers a unique charm that is different from hanging scrolls with more ornate mountings.
