This hanging scroll depicts Amida Nyorai (Boat-Standing Amida), the principal image of the Jodo sect. The principal image is the Buddha idealized by each sect, and a pictorial representation of the Buddha is called a picture image. It is usually hung in the upper center of the Buddhist altar.
