This hanging scroll depicts Amida Buddha, the principal image of the Otani sect of Shinshu Buddhism (East). The principal image is the Buddha idealized by each sect, and a pictorial representation of the Buddha is called a picture image. It is usually hung in the upper center of the Buddhist altar.
