This is a statue of Dainichi Nyorai, the principal image of Shingon Buddhism. The principal image is the Buddha idealized by each sect, and the statue was created as a physical manifestation of Buddhist teachings. It is enshrined in the upper center of the altar, where the Buddha watches over us from the highest point. While some machines are used in the production of Buddhist statues, most are handcrafted by artisans. As a result, each statue is unique.
