This statue of Dainichi Nyorai, the principal image of Shingon Buddhism, is crafted from durable, beautiful boxwood. One of the requirements for a Buddha statue is a smooth, lustrous surface, making boxwood an ideal material for Buddhist statues. The eyes of the statue's face are crafted using a modern technique dating back to the late Heian period, in which glass beads are embedded. The principal image is the Buddha idealized by each sect, and Buddhist statues are created as a physical embodiment of Buddhist teachings. It is enshrined on the top shelf in the center of the altar, where the Buddha watches over us from the highest point. While some machines are used in the production of Buddhist statues, most are handcrafted by artisans. As a result, each statue is unique. [Material] Boxwood [Product Dimensions (cm)] Height: 21.2, Width: 9.6, Depth: 8.3 [Outer Box Dimensions (cm)] Height: 12.5, Width: 12, Depth: 18 [Handling Precautions/Care Instructions] The Buddha figure, pedestal, and halo are packaged separately. The halo is inserted into the back of the pedestal, and the Buddha figure is placed on the pedestal.
