Product Introduction: The soundtrack for "TOKYO Decibel," a film shown at the Cannes Film Festival and directed by Hitonari Tsuji! Since embarking on his solo career in 1997, SUGIZO has been active around the world as the guitarist and violinist for Japan's leading rock bands LUNA SEA and X JAPAN, as well as the multinational trance unit JUNO REACTOR. His solo project, a departure from his usual band presence, fully embodies the unimaginable breadth of his musical talent. In addition to his own original compositions, SUGIZO has also recently gained acclaim as a music director and composer for stage and film scores. This release marks the release of the soundtrack for the film "TOKYO Decibel," directed by Hitonari Tsuji and set for nationwide release in May 2017. Based on the internationally acclaimed Akutagawa Prize-winning novel "TOKYO Decibel," the novel was nominated for the Mishima Yukio Prize in 1996 and has also been translated and published in France. This literary work tells the story of a university professor with a grandiose dream of creating a sound map of Tokyo, attempting to bridge the discord between his lover, a mysterious woman, and his daughter in a barren world. The all-star cast, including leading ladies Mitsuru Matsuoka, Yumi Adachi, and Natsumi Abe, as well as supporting roles, are also generating buzz. This marks SUGIZO's sixth soundtrack release as music director, and features six tracks written by him based on the story's theme, Debussy's "Reverie." The sound, featuring a variety of instruments from piano to analog synth and shakuhachi, evokes a nostalgic feeling and transports the viewer to a world of innocence. SUGIZO himself conducted field recordings of Tokyo's streets, highways, intersections, and subways, creating overdubbed sounds resembling the sound of rolling waves. The sounds, which embody the city's breathing, resonate with the heart.
