The Phantom Harlock Saga” – First Complete Edition
Volume 3 fully covers the third part, Siegfried, depicting the secret story of the birth of the Arcadia and the final moments of the Great Harlock, who is said to be the reincarnation of Siegfried.
This epic four-part series, The Ring of the Nibelung, is based on Wagner’s operas and features a full cast of Matsumoto characters, including Captain Harlock. Using scans from the surviving original manuscripts combined with the latest digital technology, the previously “phantom” fourth part, Twilight of the Gods, is included for the first time, completing the full four-volume edition.
Starting from the second part, Die Walküre, the series moved to the online magazine Web Shincho. Despite internet penetration being below 10% at the time, the series drew 400,000 hits per day, generating enormous attention both domestically and internationally, and became a pioneering example of web-based manga serialization.
While the third part, Siegfried, was published in comic form by Shinchosha and concluded in June 1999, the fourth part, Twilight of the Gods, which began serialization in July 1999, was left unfinished due to Leiji Matsumoto’s busy schedule, with the last update in December 2000. The shutdown of Web Shincho in 2010 meant that this part remained unreadable for a long time—until now.
Dimension: 13 x 3.6 x 18.8 cm
