Enabling RED color science and workflow: The ZR internally records the RAW format R3D NE designed for Nikon cameras to realize the color science unique to RED equipment, renowned for its cinematic properties. It supports 12-bit 6K 59.94p and 4K 119.88p. This compact body delivers film-like colors, faithful skin tones, and excellent roll-off processing with smooth tonal transitions without blown-out highlights. This ensures grading compatibility even in multi-camera productions that include RED equipment. Shoot high-quality video in formats such as N-RAW and Apple ProRes RAW HQ. In addition to the R3D NE, the ZR is capable of internal recording in Nikon's proprietary, highly efficient 12-bit 6K 59.94p N-RAW. Shooting settings are recorded as metadata, facilitating smooth editing. N-RAW is also optimized for lightweight editing and rapid proxy file generation, minimizing system load while maintaining video quality. In addition to R3D NE and N-RAW, the ZR supports multiple codecs to meet a variety of production needs. It can also record Apple ProRes RAW HQ, a format commonly used in professional productions. It can also record Apple ProRes 422 HQ*, an industry-standard codec compatible with a variety of editing software and renowned for its high video quality. Wide Dynamic Range and Base ISO Sensitivity: The ZR boasts a dynamic range of up to 15+ stops. When using the 12-bit R3D NE video file format, the base ISO can be switched between low (ISO 800) and high (ISO 6400) sensitivity. By optimizing the setting for each scene, the camera maintains the texture of shadows while smoothing the gradation of highlights, even in situations with extreme contrasts, such as outdoor shooting during the day or in dimly lit indoor scenes. This ensures image quality is maintained even under complex lighting conditions. A partially stacked CMOS sensor delivers high-performance: High-speed processing circuits stacked above and below the imaging element enable in-camera recording of Full HD 239.76p video and 6K 59.94p RAW video. Rolling shutter distortion is also effectively minimized. Cinematic Video Mode: Creates a cinematic look straight out of the camera. The ZR features a dedicated user-defined Cinematic Video mode, developed in collaboration with RED. Achieve cinematic, richly gradated images straight out of the camera, without the need for color grading. This is ideal for budget-constrained situations or when post-production isn't an option. Cinematic Video mode sets the frame rate to Full HD 23.976p and the shutter mode to Shutter Angle. Additionally, when shooting in R3D NE 12-bit (R3D), the ZR allows you to preview the graded image using a LUT on the monitor while shooting. This eliminates the need for an external monitor or preview tool to check the finished image. The monitor's aspect ratio is 16:10, allowing you to fully display the 16:9 video format common in video production, while using the remaining space to display other information. This keeps the monitor uncluttered and allows you to simultaneously see shooting information at a glance, allowing you to focus on composition. It also provides smooth access to waveform, zebra, and focus peaking displays. Audio recording capabilities rival those of external devices. The ZR's built-in microphone supports 32-bit float recording, enabling recording with a wide dynamic range and eliminating the need for manual gain adjustments. This ensures clear, distortion-free audio, even when shooting quiet conversations or scenes with sudden loud sounds. 32-bit float recording is also possible with external devices such as a Φ3.5mm stereo mini jack microphone.
