Until now, ultra-telephoto lenses with focal lengths exceeding 600mm in 35mm format have tended to be large, heavy, and expensive, making telephoto photography an accessible experience. This product takes advantage of the characteristics of the Micro Four Thirds System standard to achieve an ultra-telephoto range equivalent to 150-600mm in 35mm format, all in a lightweight design weighing just 423g. Excellent Image Quality: ZERO (Zuiko Extra-low Reflection Optical) Coating thoroughly eliminates previously difficult-to-prevent ghosting and flare, ensuring clear image quality even in adverse conditions such as backlight. ZERO Coating is a coating technology developed using thin-film control techniques accumulated through multi-layer film deposition. It not only delivers high transmittance and clear image quality, but also boasts the advantages of high film strength due to vacuum deposition, making it resistant to scratches and deterioration. The optical system uses one Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) lens element and two ED lens elements to effectively eliminate chromatic aberration, which degrades image quality in telephoto lenses. Three HR (High Refractive Index) lens elements minimize the lens's size and eliminate various aberrations, achieving excellent image quality across the entire zoom range. A circular diaphragm mechanism is used to produce natural, unobtrusive bokeh. Fast and quiet autofocus with the MSC mechanism The MSC (Movie and Still Compatible) mechanism incorporated in this lens is an advanced optical design technology developed to achieve fast and quiet focusing with a lightweight lens element count. By eliminating gears that cause operating noise and adopting a mechanism using a metal shaft and lead screw (screw drive) finished to submicron precision, the focusing lens element is directly driven. This lens employs an inner focusing system that utilizes the MSC mechanism, and focusing is performed by a compact, lightweight focus unit made up of two cemented lens elements. This results in agile and quiet autofocus operation. Smooth autofocus operation allows for stress-free and comfortable shooting of both still images and videos.
