A new-generation ★ (Star) lens that pursues ideal image quality. Anticipating further advances in camera bodies in the future, this new-generation "★ (Star)" lens delivers significant improvements in resolution, correcting aberrations to the utmost extent to deliver sharp, clear images from center to periphery. Extremely high contrast and resolution are achieved even at maximum aperture, and combined with large, natural bokeh, it produces images with a three-dimensional feel. In addition, the adoption of PLM significantly improves autofocus speed and accuracy. Despite its large F2.8 aperture, it leverages the portability of a lens designed specifically for APS-C SLR cameras, making it a versatile standard zoom lens that meets expectations for a wide range of photography, from landscapes and nature to snapshots and portraits. Uncompromising optical design delivers superior resolution. The lavish lens construction of 16 elements in 10 groups, including four aspherical elements, delivers clear, high-contrast images from center to periphery, even at maximum aperture. The use of one ED glass element, two ED glass aspherical elements, and one anomalous dispersion glass element effectively reduces chromatic aberration throughout the zoom range. Furthermore, the high-performance multi-coating "HD Coating" reduces average reflectance in the visible light range to less than 50% of conventional coatings, effectively suppressing ghosting and flare even in challenging lighting conditions, such as backlighting.
Features a PLM (Pulse Motor) for high-speed, quiet AF. The focus lens is driven by a PLM (Pulse Motor) directly connected to the lead screw, achieving approximately 2.2x faster and quieter operation at the wide-angle end and approximately 1.5x faster and quieter operation at the telephoto end compared to previous models. The manual focus operation of the power focus has also been improved, with highly accurate focus ring detection and high responsiveness enabling smooth focus lens operation in sync with focus ring operation.
Features an electromagnetic diaphragm for smooth, high-precision exposure control during video recording. When used with KAF4-mount compatible cameras, this lens enables smooth, high-precision exposure control not only in still photography but also in video mode. This allows for natural autoexposure even when there are large changes in brightness during video recording. Furthermore, in some compatible models, the PLM (Pules Motor) provides smooth focus tracking and exposure control while minimizing focus drive and aperture operation noise during video recording. This enables smooth video recording in locations with large changes in brightness, such as on stage or in a forest with sunlight filtering through the trees, or with moving subjects such as people and animals. Dust-proof and Weather-Resistant Construction The lens is designed with an "AW (All Weather)" dust-proof and weather-resistant construction, with nine seals throughout, to prevent water droplets and dust from getting inside the lens. When combined with a PENTAX digital SLR body that also features a dust-proof and weather-resistant construction, it achieves improved durability and reliability in rainy or foggy weather, or in places where it may be exposed to water splashes.
