Released July 2016
This F1.4 premium lens delivers high contrast and resolution, while achieving the flatness of the image plane worthy of the Planar name. Mount: E-mount lens (compatible with full-frame mirrorless cameras). Focal length: 50mm. Maximum aperture: F1.4. Filter diameter: 72mm / [SEL50F14Z]SEL50F14Z Released July 2016
This F1.4 premium standard lens delivers the high contrast and resolution you expect from Zeiss lenses with its flatness of the image plane worthy of the Planar name. This large-aperture prime lens with an F1.4 maximum aperture delivers the high contrast and resolution you expect from Zeiss lenses. Its advanced optical design, featuring two aspherical lens elements, including one AA (advanced aspherical) lens with high surface precision, reduces field curvature and distortion, achieving the flatness of the image plane worthy of the Planar name. Axial chromatic aberration is effectively corrected by ED glass, maintaining high resolution and contrast from the center to the edges of the image. ZEISS "T* (T-Star) Coating" suppresses flare and ghosting, delivering sharp, clear images. With an extremely bright maximum aperture of f/1.4, this lens is ideal for a variety of scenes, from snapshots and landscapes to dimly lit indoor and night scenes, and even portraits that take advantage of the shallow depth of field and beautiful, rich bokeh created by the 11-blade circular aperture. The focus drive employs a ring-drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor), which moves the large, heavy focus lens with high speed and precision, enabling the precise focusing required in the digital high-resolution era. It also features an aperture ring with click on/off switch and a "focus mode switch" that switches between AF and MF. The lens is designed with ease of use and reliability in mind, with features such as sealing to prevent the intrusion of dust and water. The ZEISS lens delivers the high contrast and stunning resolution you expect from a ZEISS lens. Its design incorporates two aspherical lenses, including one advanced aspherical (AA) lens, and one ED (extra-low dispersion) glass element. The symmetrical double Gauss lens configuration, combined with a rear group for internal focusing, minimizes field curvature and distortion. From infinity to close-ups, it delivers stunning resolution and high contrast across the entire frame. By thoroughly suppressing coma aberrations that tend to occur at the periphery of the frame when used at maximum aperture, it reduces the blurring of point light sources and achieves excellent point image reproduction. Furthermore, the use of ED glass effectively corrects the axial chromatic aberrations that tend to occur with large-aperture lenses, enabling clear images with minimal color fringing. The ZEISS T* (T-Star) coating also reduces inter-surface reflections, even in challenging backlit and semi-backlit conditions. It delivers crisp, clear images with minimal flare and ghosting. Beautiful, Natural Bokeh Creates a Three-Dimensional Effect The shallow depth of field of F1.4 creates a natural, beautiful bokeh that adds depth and dimension to your photos. Whether you're shooting snapshots, landscapes, or portraits, you'll be able to create striking images that are a cut above the rest. Effective placement of ED glass significantly reduces axial chromatic aberration, resulting in beautifully blurred images with minimal color cast. Furthermore, the 11-blade aperture mechanism creates beautiful circular bokeh. High-precision, high-speed focus drive required in the era of high resolution. The focus drive employs a ring drive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor), which precisely moves the large focus lens. This achieves the high-precision focusing required for the large F1.4 aperture lens with its extremely shallow depth of field. This enables the precise focusing required for high-resolution photography, both in stills and video. User-friendly Operation and Reliability Support the Photographer: The aperture ring allows for intuitive aperture control. The lens is equipped with a "Click ON/OFF Switch" that allows you to turn the click function on or off, allowing you to select the mode that best suits your needs. For example, you can turn it off to reduce operation noise when shooting video, or turn it on to experience the aperture when shooting still images. It also features a "Focus Mode Switch" that allows you to switch between AF and MF modes without taking your eye off the viewfinder. Furthermore, sealing is applied to each part of the lens barrel to prevent the intrusion of dust and water droplets from the outside, achieving a dust- and weather-resistant construction. Accessories: Hood (ALC-SH143), Front Lens Cap (ALC-F72S), Rear Lens Cap (ALC-R1EM), Soft Case ■ Specifications ■ Lens Mount: Sony E-Mount Compatible Image Size: 35mm Full Frame Focal Length (mm): 50 Focal Length Image (mm): 75 Lens Construction (Groups - Elements): 9-12 Angle of View (APS-C): 32° Angle of View (35mm): 47 Maximum Aperture (F-Number): 1.4 Minimum Aperture (F-Number): 16 Aperture Blades (Number): 11 Circular Aperture: Yes Minimum Focusing Distance (m): 0.45 Maximum Magnification (x): 0.15 Filter Diameter (mm): 72 Hood Type: Petal-Shaped Bayonet Dimensions Maximum Diameter x Length (mm): 83.5 x 108 Weight: Approx. 778g Manufacturer's Warranty: 1 Year
