A large-aperture lens with an f/1.4 maximum aperture that delivers high resolution and sharp depiction even at wide open apertures when photographing distant scenes such as landscapes.・Mount: Nikon F mount, FX format compatible・Focal length: 105mm・Maximum aperture: f/1.4・Filter diameter: 82mm/[AFS10514E]AFS10514EReleased August 2016
"Three-dimensional high-fidelity" that depicts a natural sense of depth with gradual changes in bokeh. This lens inherits the "three-dimensional high-fidelity (high reproducibility)" design concept pursued with the AF-S NIKKOR 58mm f/1.4G, which reproduces three-dimensional subjects as more natural three-dimensional images in the two-dimensional field of a photograph. This "three-dimensional, high-fidelity lens" not only enhances resolution and contrast in in-focus areas, but also emphasizes continuity from in-focus areas to blurred and fully blurred areas, enhancing the sense of depth. The blur gradually changes from the focused pupil to the wrinkles at the corners of the eyes and then to the hair, creating a natural sense of depth. This meticulously calculated blur effect creates a comfortable sense of air, captivating the portrayal of people and still lifes. Shallow Depth of Field and Large Bokeh: This fast-aperture, mid-telephoto prime lens takes advantage of the shallow depth of field unique to the 105mm f/1.4 to enjoy large, beautiful bokeh. This allows for impressive, natural-looking portraits that separate the subject from their surroundings. The appeal of the 105mm focal length and f/1.4 aperture: The bright viewfinder image of a fast prime lens with an f/1.4 aperture supports comfortable shooting, and its relatively fast shutter speeds make it effective for handheld shooting in dimly lit scenes. Sharp landscape rendering even at widest apertures: Despite its fast f/1.4 aperture, the AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED delivers high resolution and sharpness even at widest apertures when capturing distant landscapes and other scenes. Furthermore, by narrowing the aperture by one or two stops, extremely sharp rendering is achieved even at the edges of the image. Excellent point image reproduction: Point light sources in distant night and evening scenes are rendered as "points" with minimal distortion or blur. With typical fast-aperture lenses, sagittal coma flare, a common aberration, becomes noticeable at widest apertures, causing the image of a point light source to blur and resemble a bird with its wings spread. The AF-S NIKKOR 105mm f/1.4E ED was designed to meticulously suppress the causes of sagittal coma flare, achieving sharp, point-to-point rendering even at maximum aperture. It delivers sharp, edge-to-edge rendering even when shooting nightscapes.
Three ED lens elements minimize chromatic aberration. The lens employs three ED lens elements to effectively suppress color fringing caused by focus shifts, achieving superior rendering performance. This lens is particularly effective at correcting axial chromatic aberration. Even in scenes with high contrast, such as those seen in photographs, it reduces chromatic aberration (color fringing) that tends to be noticeable at the edges of highlights.
Nano Crystal Coat suppresses ghosting and flare. Nano Crystal Coat provides extremely high anti-reflection performance across the entire visible light range, effectively reducing ghosting and flare in backlit situations. It delivers consistently clear images in a variety of shooting situations, including scenes with light entering the lens at an angle. Nikon's latest optical design makes this the world's first 100-105mm prime lens in the mid-telephoto range, combining an F1.4 aperture with AF*. Enjoy the stunning image quality of the latest 105mm with AF. *As of July 27, 2016, this is the best-selling 35mm-compatible prime lens available. According to Nikon research.
