High Image Quality with Special ASC Coating. In addition to revising the existing coating, the lens now features ASC (Air Sphere Coating), a special coating that provides significant anti-reflection for light incident at angles close to perpendicular to the lens surface. This significantly reduces flare and ghosting and improves backlit performance. It delivers high image quality in a variety of shooting environments.
Achieves Superior Optical Performance Befitting an L Lens. The lens employs the same optics as its acclaimed predecessor, consisting of 23 lenses in 19 groups, including one fluorite lens and five UD lenses. Equipped with 3.5 shutter speed steps of image stabilization equivalent to the previous model.
Improved convenience for comfortable shooting. A new fluorine coating has been applied to the front and rear lens surfaces to prevent oil and water droplets from adhering. Oil and other substances adhering to the lens can be easily removed with a dry cloth without the use of solvents. The mount, switch panel, focus ring, and zoom ring are dust-proof and weather-resistant*.
