Released November 2016
A fast, constant f/2.8 telephoto zoom lens that combines high-level mobility with excellent optical performance. Mount: Nikon F mount, FX format compatible. Focal length: 70-200mm. Maximum aperture: f/2.8. Filter diameter: 77mm. [AFS7020028E]AFS7020028E Released November 2016
This lens features high mobility and weather resistance to support shooting in harsh environments. Its lightweight fluorite and high-refractive index (HRI) lenses contribute to its lightweight design. The lens barrel is made of magnesium alloy, achieving a weight reduction that is both durable and lightweight. Approximately 110g lighter than the previous AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, it helps reduce fatigue and maintain concentration during extended shoots, such as sports and news coverage. The lens also features a dust- and weather-resistant construction* with sealing throughout, including the moving parts of the lens barrel, to prevent dust and water from entering. Furthermore, Nikon's proprietary fluorine coating prevents dust and water from adhering and makes them easy to wipe clean. The combination of lightweight and weather-resistant construction supports agile shooting, even in harsh shooting environments. While the lens is designed with dust and water resistance in mind, complete dust and water resistance is not guaranteed under all conditions. The latest technology for capturing moving subjects, including enhanced VR, includes a SPORT mode that provides a stable, blur-free viewfinder image, making it easy to track subjects with rapid movement and maintain focus even during high-speed continuous shooting. VR performance has also been significantly improved immediately after powering on, providing maximum effectiveness in stabilizing the viewfinder image and reducing blur in captured images. In NORMAL mode, the lens delivers 4.0-stop (CIPA standard) image stabilization. Furthermore, the latest technologies provide powerful support for capturing moving subjects, including smooth, fast, and quiet AF drive control, improved AF tracking even for irregularly moving subjects, and an electromagnetic diaphragm mechanism that improves AE stability during high-speed continuous shooting.
Operability and Convenience Support Focus on the Shoot: The frequently used zoom ring is located at the tip of the lens, while the focus ring is located on the mount side, improving grip during shooting. Furthermore, four focus operation buttons enable reliable and quick focusing, and are easily accessible in both portrait and landscape orientations. The tripod collar ring features durable bearings that enable quick and smooth changes in portrait and landscape composition. The minimum focusing distance has also been reduced from 1.4m to 1.1m across the entire zoom range, and the maximum magnification has been improved from 0.11x to 0.21x. Focusing on closer subjects is easy, allowing for close-up shots. A new optical design pursues even higher resolution across the entire zoom range, delivering even higher resolution than the AF-S NIKKOR 70-200mm f/2.8G ED VR II, already renowned for its superior resolution, and consistent resolution even at the edges of the image. The lens incorporates a fluorite lens element, a high refractive index (HRI) lens element, and six ED lens elements to effectively correct chromatic aberration and other aberrations, as well as Nano Crystal Coat to reduce ghosting and flare, resulting in exceptional imaging performance. In addition to this superior optical performance, the lens boasts a maximum aperture of f/2.8 and a focal length of up to 200mm, allowing for the shallow depth of field and large bokeh effects unique to fast zoom lenses. Fluorite Lens: Fluorite is a crystalline material with high transmittance from the infrared to ultraviolet ranges. It thoroughly eliminates secondary spectrum, which causes chromatic aberration (color fringing), and effectively corrects chromatic aberration, even at longer focal lengths. It is also lighter than optical glass, contributing to a lighter lens design. By using it on the tip of the lens, the center of gravity is closer to the camera, making it easier to handle. Accessories: 77mm Spring-Loaded Lens Cap LC-77, Rear Cover LF-4, Bayonet Hood HB-78, Lens Case CL-M2 ■ Specifications ■
