The lens alone is equivalent to 300-1200mm, and can also be used with the separately sold teleconverters "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 1.4x Teleconverter MC-14" and "M.ZUIKO DIGITAL 2x Teleconverter It is also compatible with the MC-20 teleconverter, which expands the focal length to 600-2400mm equivalent when attached. This enables stunning ultra-telephoto shooting, making it a valuable tool for capturing nature-focused images of birds, animals, and insects that are difficult to get close to. Capturing larger subjects is beneficial for creating high-quality images without the need for cropping. The wide 4x zoom range, which provides clear, high-resolution images across the entire zoom range, also greatly aids in on-site composition by adjusting the angle of view. The lens is equipped with an in-lens image stabilization mechanism, and works in conjunction with the camera's built-in image stabilization to provide up to 7 stops of image stabilization with 5-axis sync image stabilization, or up to 6 stops with the lens alone. This enables stable handheld shooting, even at ultra-telephoto settings where camera shake is likely to occur, and long exposures in dim light. This allows for effortless, tripod-free shooting, allowing you to focus on nature photography without the hassle of a tripod. The camera's IPX1-equivalent water- and dust-resistant design ensures worry-free use even in rain or other splash-prone situations. The front lens element is fluorine-coated, so even if it gets soiled with raindrops, dust, or other contaminants, it can be easily wiped clean, allowing you to resume shooting immediately.
Comfortable Operation and Close-Up Shooting Performance: The zoom ring torque can be set to two settings—S (Smooth) or T (Tight)—using the Zoom Torque/Lock Switch, allowing you to adjust it to suit the shooting situation. You can also select L (Lock) to lock the lens at the wide-angle end. In addition to zoom ring operation, the camera also supports linear zooming for quick zooming. Other features include a focus limit switch, focus selector switch, IS switch, and L-Fn (lens function) button, all of which support comfortable shooting. The camera also boasts excellent close-up shooting performance, with a minimum focusing distance of 0.56m at the wide-angle end and 2.8m at the telephoto end, and a maximum magnification of 0.7x at the wide-angle end and 0.39x at the telephoto end. While super telephoto lenses are ideal for photographing distant subjects, this lens can also be used as an excellent tele-macro lens for capturing small subjects such as flowers and insects. By using a teleconverter in combination, you can achieve shots comparable to those taken with a macro lens, further expanding the scope of your outdoor photography. It also supports "depth stacking mode," which takes multiple shots with different focus positions and combines them into a single photo with a wider range in focus.
