[Product Introduction]
This is the Tamiya 1/20 Grand Prix Collection No. 72 Toyota Celica LB Turbo Gr.5 [Special Sale Product]. [The German-bred Silhouette Celica that challenged its undefeated rivals] The Toyota Celica LB Turbo was a Group 5 machine developed for the 1977 German Racing Car Championship (DRM). Based on the commercially available Celica Liftback 2000GT, it was fitted with aerodynamic parts such as boldly flared overfenders and a large rear wing, and most of the body panels were changed to lightweight FRP. The vehicle weight was kept down to 860kg. This body, which was modified to the point of being unrecognizable from the original, was equipped with a Toyota inline 4-cylinder turbo engine tuned by Schnitzer, a company known for tuning BMWs and other cars. The engine displacement was increased to 2090cc, a 4-valve system was added, and a mechanical fuel injection system and a KKK turbocharger were installed to produce a massive 560 horsepower. It made its debut at the 8th round of the 1977 DRM, the Hockenheim GP, and achieved its first victory in the race held in Zolder, Belgium in October of that year, beating the ever-victorious Porsche 935. As a silhouette machine born in Japan and raised in Germany, it attracted a great deal of attention.
