The JR Bus Kanto Suito-Nishi Line, between Motegi, Soboi, and Utsunomiya, opened in 1937.
Originally, it was planned as a line connecting Mito and Utsunomiya, with a mission similar to that of a "precursor railway line" for the Japanese National Railways, and the name "Mito" (Water City) comes from this.
The Suito East Line was located on the Mito side and the Suito West Line on the Utsunomiya side, with the boundary being Mount Gozenyama (Akazawa) in Ibaraki Prefecture.
However, the Mito side was abolished in 1980.
Subsequently, the Suito-Nishi Line's mission shifted to "shortcutting the railway line" by directly connecting the Mooka Railway line with the Tohoku Main Line, and to promoting the use of Utsunomiya Station on the Tohoku Shinkansen.
It transformed into an urban route with many local services and the last bus running until after 9 PM.
However, with the opening of the Utsunomiya Light Rail in August 2023, the service was relinquished its mission of connecting Utsunomiya and Haga Town.
In recent years, the number of services that go to JR Utsunomiya Station has decreased, and only a few services remain in the morning and evening.
Then, on September 30, 2025, the Suito-Nishi Line, a major long-distance bus route representing Tochigi Prefecture, was discontinued, and JR buses disappeared from Utsunomiya Station and Motegi Station.
In gratitude and respect for this historic route, we have created a special product set featuring two buses used on the final day of the Suito-Nishi Line: a Hino Blue Ribbon City used for the 18:01 departure from Sakushin Gakuin-mae to Motegi Station via JR Utsunomiya Station, and a Nishiko 96MC used for the 7:25 departure from Motegi Station to Sakushin Gakuin-mae via JR Utsunomiya Station.
The set also includes a special sticker set featuring a bus mask and destination display that reads "Thank you for 88 years".
