This is the last work by vocalist Thomas, who passed away last year. At The Gates are from Sweden and are known as the originators of melodic death metal. Disbanded in 1996 and reformed in 2014, At the Gates have returned with original guitarist Anders Björn Björn for their fourth reunion album, their eighth overall. This is also the last album by vocalist Thomas Björn, who passed away last year. At the Gates were formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in 1990. They continued to perform despite numerous member changes, and in 1995 they released their fourth album, the masterpiece "Slaughter of the Soul." This album had a tremendous influence on heavy metal bands in America and Europe and became a bible-like work in the metal scene, but unfortunately the band announced their disbandment in July 1996. After that, the Björn brothers, Jonas (bass) and Anders (guitar), and Adrian (drums) formed The Haunted, while Thomas (vocals) joined Rock Up and other bands, each going their separate ways. In 2008, the band reunited for live performances with the original members from the "Slaughter of the Soul" album, performing in various countries including Japan. Encouraged by the positive response, they reunited for a third tour in 2010, and subsequently began working on their fifth reunion album. In 2014, they released "At War with Reality," their long-awaited comeback album after 19 years. The following year, 2015, they performed in Japan twice, with a solo show and a performance at Loud Park. In 2018, with old friend Jonas Stalhammer (G) replacing Anders (G), they released their second reunion album, "To Drink From the Night Itself," and performed in Japan for the fourth time that same year. In 2021, they released their third reunion album (seventh overall), "The Nightmare of Being." In 2022, they performed a complete recreation of "SLAUGHTER OF THE SOUL," which had been canceled in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, at Download Festival Japan 22. Afterwards, original member Anders (G) returned, and they began working on their fourth reunion album (eighth overall), which they completed. Sadly, Thomas (Vo) passed away on September 16, 2025. Here comes "The Ghost of a Future Dead," Thomas's final work. This last work by Thomas features Anders' melodic guitar solos prominently and is composed of dramatically unfolding songs.
