・Frequency characteristics that are not affected by distance The R122-V is the pinnacle of the Royer R Series microphones, a world-class tube ribbon microphone boasting unparalleled richness, depth, and detail. The R-122V delivers unparalleled performance, arguably the ultimate ribbon microphone. By incorporating vacuum tubes into the transducer system used in the R-121/122, the R-122V elevates the concept of active ribbon microphone technology pioneered by Royer to a new level. The high-voltage operation of the vacuum tubes provides headroom far exceeding that of standard 48V phantom power. Even with high-pressure sources, the sound remains unaffected, delivering a clear, detailed, and ethereal sound. The Electronics R-122V's head amplifier section is equipped with a low-noise, military-grade 5840 vacuum tube in a triode configuration. Designed for any instrument, regardless of genre, the R-122V combines unparalleled transient response and the driving performance only a tube head amplifier can deliver, without the typical tube coloration. The R-122V's triode-connected cathode follower circuitry ensures long-distance runs without degradation in sound quality or attenuation of high frequencies. This performance is further enhanced by the R-122V's dedicated power supply, which delivers ample power to the tubes. The custom Jensen output transformer-isolated balanced output virtually eliminates induced noise. Like the R-122 active ribbon microphone, the R-122V has significantly higher output than passive ribbon microphones, and its impedance matching circuitry ensures the ribbon element is always optimally loaded. This allows it to be used with any microphone or preamp combination without the gain and impedance concerns associated with ribbon microphones. The R-122V's high output is generated by a large toroidal transformer, eliminating the need for added noise. Patented Offset Ribbon Technology: The R-122V's patented "offset ribbon transducer" is a unique design that positions the ribbon element closer to the front of the microphone (logo side). This placement creates space for the ribbon to vibrate within a magnetic field, maintaining a wide frequency response even in high-SPL recording environments. This is an essential element of the magic of Royer R-series microphones. Recording: Experience the R-122V's sonic reproduction, warmth, and subtlety. A renowned Los Angeles engineer described the R-122V's sound as "taking the best of the R-121 and R-122, packing them into one microphone, and working some magic on it." The R-122V is used for woodwinds, strings, percussion, brass, room mics, and even "Decca Tree" (miking for orchestral recordings). It has enough gain to capture even the quietest sources, and its low impedance eliminates signal degradation even over long cable runs. Electric: When recording guitars and drums, the R-122V's dynamics, range, and richness are impressive. Two Mics In One: When recording closer than 1 meter, the rear of the R-122V has a slightly brighter character than the front. Acoustic: Use the rear for sources that require a brighter sound, such as guitars and vocals.
