A plastic model that requires assembly and painting. Separate tools, paint, etc. are required.
1/72 scale plastic model. The F-106A is an all-weather interceptor fighter developed as an evolution of the previous F-102A Delta Dagger, and was originally called the F-102B. Equipped with the J75 engine, which has 50% more thrust than the J57 engine installed in the F-102, the F-106 has grown into a Mach 2 class interceptor. The most distinctive feature of the F-106 is its fire control system, which is close to fully automatic as it is equipped with the Hughes MA-1, a digital computer integrated with SAGE, the semi-automated interceptor system in mainland America at the time. It had advanced interception capabilities. Of course, it was equipped with the latest radar and navigation equipment, and had extremely advanced all-weather capabilities. The main armament is missiles, and since it has a missile bay in the center of the fuselage, missiles can be loaded without exposing them, and there are no speed restrictions. The F-106A was deployed to the U.S. Air Force's Aerospace Command (ADC) from June 1959, and continued to be used as the main interceptor until the 1980s. The F-106 was basically developed for the purpose of deterring invasions by large Soviet bombers equipped with nuclear missiles, so there was little consideration given to melee combat with fighters, and as a result, it did not have fixed armament. However, the low wing loading provided by the delta wing gave it high maneuverability, so it was modified to mount an M61 Vulcan cannon in the missile bay for melee combat. However, as a result, the F-106 ended its life without experiencing any major combat. (From Discovery Japan Mall)
