The PC Engine was a revolutionary small-sized game console that went on sale in Japan on October 30, 1987. It was based on the "Core Concept", a concept to expand the functionality by connecting various peripherals. In November 1988, the CD-ROM², the world's first CD-ROM-based expansion interface, was released.
