Just bought this lens a while ago and have not fully discovered its potential yet.First I have to say, I am not a professional photographer and got my first DSLR just a few month ago - so my learning curve is still steeply raising ;-) However I do like macro photography very much and am impressed by this lens. It gave me some brilliant shots.It is very well built and robust. It keeps its total length even when focusing. It is not too heavy and gives a nice feeling on a Canon T1i (500D) body. You can even without tripod shoot very nice free hand macros.I even used it for sports photography lately at a volleyball game and it gave me better results then my Canon EF-S 55-250 mm f4-5.6 IS. At the required very fast shutter speeds (1/600s) the low f-values came in very handy and the pics didn't suffer from too little light as they did with the 55-250.I haven't done portraits yet but am sure the lens is doing brilliant there as well.I even have it on my camera body as my walk-around lens now.I really like it.

I am fairly new to digital photography, but not new to photography in general, and I used to own the famous Micro Nikkor Macro lens for film cameras years ago, and this one is so much easier to use and has excellent image too. I was impressed with the speed of the autofocus motor, and it's accuracy amazed me repeatedly. I just purchased an SB 900 flash for my Nikon D5000 so I'm looking forward to some small aperature closeups. I'm delighted with the lens, even tho I wished I had gotten Vibration Reduction as with my Nikon lenses.

I use this lens with a Canon 60D. This is my first macro lens am very happy with it. I have been able to take some amazing macro shots of textures, flowers, and insects. It also produces some fantastic portraits, with excellent bokeh, thanks to its large aperture, which also allows you to take great shots in low light. The focusing motor is very quiet and quick, and the full-time manual focus ring is a great feature -- no need to slide the switch first.It's only shortcomings, if you can call them that, are that it hunts a lot at times when focusing on macro shots, though in all fairness it is best to use manual focus for that, regardless of the lens; and when the lens hood is mounted in reverse you cannot access the focusing ring.For portraits, focusing is perfect most of the time, though it front-focuses occasionally. When properly focused, I have found my images are super sharp, even at f/2.0. As far as exterior design, it is a bit plain, as most Tamron lenses are. I can't comment on durability yet, as I have only had it about 3 months. As far as price, a bit steep; I wouldn't have bought it without the $100 rebate they were offering at the time, but definitely worth it with the rebate. Overall, I highly recommend this lens for its great image quality, focusing speed and full-time MF ring.

Received brand new, well packaged. Warranty registration was very easy. This is my first "dedicated" prime macro lens and I've been extremely impressed to this point. This lens provides me with access to a new world of close-up and portrait photography that I've never had before. I am a rank amateur and I am excited about growing into this lens and the possibilities it opens up.

I'd say the lens is solid all around. I'm not the most experienced with sharpness/etc. I've taken a few hundred pictures with it all ready. I never realized how difficult macro photography really is. Getting the focus right is so, so difficult at 1:1 ratio.The focus on this lens seems pretty fast on my Canon 60D. It should work well for sports photography, especially with its 60mm + 2.0 aperature.I'd definitely recommend the lens to someone looking for a cheaper + faster lenses than the canon alterative. I'm replacing my 50mm 1.8 with this lens, since it's more versatile.

I rarely write a review, but I think it's worth mentioning that the optical properties of the lens are impressive. The focus allows you to get very close. I almost returned this lens simply because I had problems with the auto-focus at first. It had trouble finding the subject and got lost in the out of focus range. Then I read that the focus problem is common for macro lenses in general. I gave the lens a second chance before I returned it, and I figured out how to improve the focus by moving slightly closer and further from the subject.I can't give this product 5 stars because it takes a long time to focus on a macro shot, maybe 10 seconds at times. A macro lens with good optics and a fast auto focus in this price range may or may not exist, but I'm going to reserve 5 stars for such a lens. I'm giving this lens 4 stars because I'm very impressed with its capabilities.

I bought this for portrait photography but ended up playing around (a lot) with the macro feature. This lens is very underrated. There are not too many reviews online or on YouTube. The bokeh is beautiful. The f.2 provides a very shallow depth of field when focusing on bugs or plants; excellent pinpoint accuracy. I knocked it down one star (I could have knocked it down 2) because the focus hunting is very noticeable. Since my subjects for portraiture usually aren't moving objects then this is okay and it makes it easy to focus. The focus hunting is much more noticeable when shooting macro. Overall it is a really good lens. A little dated and they'll probably update it soon. Either way it's a great buy if you can find a used on for cheap. If they update this lens to the new Tamron design and with VC this would be a real winner. Since it is mostly plastic it does have that cheaper feel to it. A positive about the plastic is that this lens is very light weight. There are some lenses I like to use on my smaller SL2 body such as Canon's pancakes and this lens. I've used this to photograph reptiles at the zoo in low light and the pictures were amazing. I think this would also be great for aquarium photography which will be my next endeavor. If the 1 major setback mentioned above were not present then this would be a killer 5 star lens. But the focus hunting may keep you waiting for the perfect shot. And when your perfect shot is a moving subject then you may be out of luck with this lens.
