PIT ROAD 1/700 US Navy aircraft carrier CV-8 Hornet. CV-8 Hornet was commissioned in 1941 as the third of the Yorktown class aircraft carriers. The following year, the ship was equipped with 16 B-25 Mitchell bombers, which were Army Air Corps planes rather than carrier-based planes, and was launched from the waters near Japan to conduct the first successful air raid on the mainland, but was severely damaged and sunk in the Battle of the South Pacific that year.
