Himeji Castle is a castle located in Himeji City, Hyogo Prefecture. It is also known as Shirasagijo (White Heron Castle). It is a representative example of the remains of a castle in the early modern period, and has never been damaged by war since its construction. Eight of the buildings, including the large castle tower, small castle tower, and wataru turret, are national treasures. There are 74 various buildings (27 turrets and wataru turrets, and 15 gates). 32 buildings and walls) have been designated as important cultural properties. In 1993, it was registered as a UNESCO World Heritage Site (cultural heritage). It is one of the world's most famous castles, and together with Matsumoto Castle and Kumamoto Castle, it is called one of Japan's three most famous castles.
