The 185 series is a direct current express train that appeared in 1981. The 185 series at Tamachi Vehicle Center is mainly used for the "Odoriko" express train, and in addition to the 0 series that replaced the 153 series, the 200 series, which was transferred in as a surplus and was snow-resistant and cold-resistant, was deployed. The 185 series for the "Odoriko" was repainted around 1999 and repainted, and in 2010 the skirt was changed to a reinforced type, but from 2011 it was repainted again with the original cream No. 10 with a diagonal stripe of green No. 14. The train was discontinued on the "Odoriko" express train with the timetable revision in March 2021, and as of 2024, two 6-car trains are in use for group and special trains.
